Finding Articles, Technical Reports & Conference Papers
Citation information from databases can be used to help locate the full-text in the following ways:
- Link to the full-text of the article in another location by clicking on a button that says
.
- If you don't see the find it @ SU button, search Socrates, the
online catalog, using Periodical Title to determine whether the journal is available through the Stanford Libraries.
- If the journal is not in Socrates, you can request it from another library via
Interlibrary Services (ILL).
BIOSIS – Civil / Environmental Engineers will be interested in
its coverage of microbiology and biochemical/biological treatment of wastes.
Business Source Premier - A good source for articles on the business
and market aspects of civil, environmental, and construction engineering.
Civil Engineering Database – Provides access to all
ASCE (American Society for Civil Engineering) documents published since 1974.
Chemical Abstracts
via SciFinder - Worldwide literature from all areas of chemistry, biochemistry, and chemical engineering.
Earthquake Engineering
Abstracts - Topics in structural dynamics, seismology, geology, architecture, political science, economics, planning,
public policy, and hazards mitigation as they relate to earthquake studies.
Engineering Index
– (also called Compendex) Contains over 9 million records and references over 5,000 international engineering sources including journal, conference, and trade publications.
Environmental Sciences & Pollution
Management Databases - Covers air, land, water and noise pollution, bacteriology, ecology, toxicology, risk assessment, environmental
biotechnology and engineering, waste management, water resources, policies and regulations, and U.S. federal environmental impact statements.
GeoRef - Provides access to journal articles,
books, maps, conference papers, reports and theses. Includes more than 25,145 publications.
INSPEC via LANL - Civil and Environmental engineers should
be interested in INSPEC's coverage of mechanics, fluid mechanics, numerical methods, and computing.
Institute of Transportation Studies - The University of California’s Institute of Transportation
Studies Library's holdings is an excellent starting point for researching transportation-related topics.
NTIS (National Technical Information
Service) - Citations and abstracts from unclassified government-sponsored research reports from the Departments of Defense, Energy, NASA, and
other federal agencies. Includes some international document abstracts.
QUAKELINE – Covers Earthquakes, earthquake engineering, natural hazards
mitigation, and related topics. An attempt is made to exclude the items already listed in NTIS, Engineering Index/Compendex, and GeoRef.
SciSearch via Web of
Knowledge - Indexes authors who have been cited in current literature across 100 scientific disciplines. Key feature is the ability to
search by who is citing various papers by other authors.
Scitopia – A federated search portal created through the collaboration of 15 leading
science and technology societies. It searches the electronic libraries of these societies, including more than three million documents,
peer-reviewed journal content and technical conference papers. Though the search is freely available, access to many documents requires
authentication.
TRIS Online – offers references to all modes of transportation and various
aspects including design, planning, safety, and environmental issues.
