Access and privileges
Suspended borrowing privileges
Borrowing privileges can be blocked for several reasons: unpaid library bills, registration holds, lost key fees, invalid addresses, or failure to respond to a recall. Avoid suspension by renewing books online before they are due. You can renew items and pay fines at My Account.
Students and staff: Borrowing privileges are blocked when library fines reach $50. You need to pay the entire balance in order to unblock your account.
Faculty: Borrowing privileges are blocked when library fines reach $300. Overdue fines are forgiven when overdue materials are returned.
Stanford Libraries cardholders:
- Courtesy cards: Borrowing privileges are blocked when library fines reach $50. You need to pay the entire balance in order to unblock your account.
- Fee-based cards: Borrowing privileges are blocked immediately for overdue items. To unblock your account, you must return your overdue items and pay the fines as soon as possible.
